Portraits

By far, the people of Bhutan are among its greatest assets.  They are kind, generous and extremely friendly.  As a photographer, taking photos of people creates a significant challenge.  Photographing a person’s face is an invasion of privacy and personal space.  Moreover, asking a person to hold still so that a group of photographers can take a lot pictures, is physically difficult.  Yet, they happily complied and we were grateful.

The four portrait groupings below contain images using a variety of lighting techniques.  In some cases, natural light was used.  In others, we used both on and off camera flash.  Finally, we used reflector disks to light their faces.  Each technique gives different results.
