Havana is one of the most beautiful and architecturally diverse cities in the world. Its architecture mirrors its rich social and political history from the graceful colonial and baroque period to modern brutal tower blocks.  What is most sad about visiting Havana, is its state of decay.  Clearly, the Cuban people nor the Cuban government has the resources to maintain this beautiful city.

We walked throughout the city into neighborhoods that were not for tourists.  It did not matter.  It was safe, and the people were very friendly.  Havana is a port city, but unlike most port cities, there are no pleasure boats.  They are banned.  We visited Havana’s largest cemetery with its architectural interests, but the city is just know for its architectural beauty, painted walls, balconies and interesting doors. And of course, interspersed throughout the city were signs of the government.  Lots of flags, slogans and symbols of the regime.
