The Hippos and the crocodiles were the two large river based animals that we saw.  Hippos live in the water, but eat only grass.  Each evening the leave the water and graze in fields nearby.  Of all of the animals we saw, by far, the Hippos are the most dangerous and kill more people each year than any other african wildlife.

The crocodiles live with the hippos, each leaves the other alone.  The crocodiles are extremely large and can grow to more than 18 feet - clearly, they are not to be reckoned with.
