MaAsai Mara, Kenya

I took about 9000 images on this trip and narrowing down the field to those that I would post was no easy task.  Then I realized that I had to select some subset of those as my favorites.

Some of these images are here because they remind me of what was best about the trip.  They are very personal.  And without context, they may mean less to you.

None the less, Here they are.  Please understand that I do this under duress!

One last point, each landrover had a driver/guide with whom we road for the entire safari.  These men are incrediblyknowledgeable and work long hours.  Usually, guides do 2 two-hour game drives each day.  Because of the photography, ours drives often lasted 12 hours.  These guys were amazing.  They positioned the trucks for the best shot and always worked with grace and kindness.

Dickson, my guide, was a Kenyan from the Kikuyu tribe.  He preferred “Dik Dik” which is an antelope-type animal found in the Mara. Not only was Dik Dik knowledgeable, he had this ability to find the big cats and predict their behavior.  Moreover, he had a great sense of humor.  When we said we wanted to see more animals, he would hold up a plush lion for us to see.  To my regret, I failed to get a picture of him with that stuffed lion.  I was happy to learn that Mirjam Evers, the owner of Photo Quest Adventures, did get one.  this photo captures him perfectly.    Thanks Mirjam, and thanks Dik Dik, you were just terrific.
