MaAsai Mara, Kenya

Wildebeests & Zebras

The Maasai Mara plains is the setting for the world’s greatest wildlife spectacle - the 3 million animal ungulate (wildebeest) migration. The animals travel from the vast Serengeti plains to the champagne colored hills of Kenya’s Masai Mara over 3 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebra and gazelle, relentlessly tracked by Africa’s great predators  The migration is in a clockwise fashion over 1,800 miles each year in search of rain ripened grass.

The migration was in the Mara during our stay.  Looking over the plains, one can often see thousands of wildebeest and zebras making their way toward Tanzania.  Often, the wildebeest traveled in long lines cursing their way across the plains.  It was a sight that remains hard to describe.
