Marrakech, known as the "Red City", is a former caravan stopping place for caravans coming from the east and is near the foothills of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains.

Marrakech has the largest traditional market (Souk) in Morocco and also has one of the busiest squares in Africa and the world called the “Djemaa el Fna”.  The square bustles with acrobats, story-tellers, water sellers, dancers, and musicians. By night food stalls open in the square turning it into a huge busy open-air restaurant.

We also visited the Majorelle Gardens, which opened in 1947 and built by Jaques Marjorelle, the son of a famous French furniture maker.  The gardens were aquired by Yves Saint Laurent and are most recognized for the “Majorelle Blue” coloring used throughout the gardens.

We also visited the grounds of the Koutoubia Mosque and the Bahia Palace (no photos) and made a stop at the Marrakech Oasis.
