SANTA ANITA PARK

Fall 2011

Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California is one of the most famous and historic race tracks in the United States.  Thie park looks out to the San Gabriel Mountains and its architecture reflects the glory years of horse racing.  Santa Anita was the home track of  Seabiscuit, one of the most famous horses in American thoroughbred racing.

Santa Anita Park hosted a photo day for amateur photographers.  Participants, including myself, were permitted to shoot the morning workouts and then given credentials to shoot the entire racing card.  Our only limit was access to the stables which we visited by tram.   The access during races was amazing.  We could watch and shoot the race from the winner’s circle and were no more than 30 feet from the finish line with a completely unobstructed view.

Thanks Santa Anita.  What a fun day.
