The island of Maui is the second-largest of the Hawaiian Islands at 727.2 square miles. In 2010, Maui had a population of 144,444, third-highest of the Hawaiian Islands, behind that of Oʻahu and Hawaiʻi Island.
I went to Maui in June, 2013 to attend a good friend’s wedding. Never letting an opportunity pass to do some photography, I went out to shoot each of the four days that I was there. With family on Oahu, I have been to Hawaii on many occasions, but this is the first time I had an extended stay on Maui. It was delightful and I look forward to returning soon.
I returned to Maui in January, 2018 for more photography, but most to photograph whales. Humpback whales travel from Alaska to the waters of Maui to give birth to their young and to make. The whales are there primarily from January through March, but can be seen for about 6 months of the year.
