Croatia, officially the Republic of Croatia (Republika Hrvatska), is a democratic parliamentary republic in Europe at the crossroads of Central Europe, the Balkans, and the Mediterranean. Its capital and largest city is Zagreb. The country is divided into 20 counties and the city of Zagreb. Croatia covers 21,851 square miles and has diverse, mostly continental and Mediterranean climates. Croatia's Adriatic Sea coast contains more than a thousand islands and the eastern coastline is referred to as the Dalmatian Coast. The country's population is 4.28 million, most of whom are Croats, with the most common religious denomination being Roman Catholicism.

In the Fall of 2012, I did a photo trip to Croatia.  We started in the south at Dubrovnik and traveled up the eastern coast and ended, just south of Italy on the istrian peninsula.  It was quite an interesting trip.

Our internal guide is also an accomplished young photographer.  While it had not been on the itinerary, he suggested that we take a day trip to Montenegro, about 60 miles south of Dubrovnik.   We did and it was an excellent and worthwhile suggestion.
